Diet according to Ayurveda


Healthy and fit body is most Precious thing in the world. To give this Preciousness to every person is one of the aims of Ayurveda. To achieve this Preciousness one thing is utmost important that is proper diet and eating habits you all will agree that. For this we all consider calories, proteins, fats, Vitamins and so many other things are necessary. Ayurveda has added one more thing and that is Taste. Everyone loves Tasty food. It is accepted from small baby to senior citizens   Tasty diet food pattern can be followed for long time and thus helps achieve Healthy and Fit body.

Taste can be categorized in six types.

  1. Sweet / Madhur -- here sweet means the basic tendency of that food which it imparts after digestion. (Sweet means not just Sweet dish) For Example Milk, Wheat, Rice, Corn, Green Gram, Lentils, Ghee, Honey, Black gram, Bengal gram, Onion, etc………                                                                                                                   
  2. Sour. / Amla -- e.g. Fresh Curd, Tamarind, Kokam, Lemon, Tomato, Green mango etc………                                                                                                                           
  3. Salty. / Lavan -- e.g. Rock salt, Black salt, Sea salt etc………                                        
  4. Spicy. / Katu -- e.g. Chilly, Black pepper, Clove, Ginger, Cinnamon, etc………                                     
  5. Bitter / Tikta -- e.g.  Fenugreek, Turmeric, Bitter gourd, Sandal wood, saffron etc…………                                                                                                 
  6.  Astringent / Kashay -- e.g. Beetle nut, Nutmeg, Buttermilk, etc………


Diet should include all these six Tastes. Primarily food should be sweet and other tastes should be less prominent. Approximately it should be like this in proportion

Sweetness
80%
Sourness
10%
Salty
  3%
Spicy
  3%
Bitterness
  2%
Astringent taste
  2%
